Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 3, 2026
1. Who we are
Better Print (“we,” “us,” “our”) is operated by Illuminate LLC, a Tennessee limited liability company. Better Print is not affiliated with Notion Labs, Inc.
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use Better Print at betterprint.app (the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information
When you create an account, we collect the name and email address associated with your sign-in provider (Google, Apple, Microsoft, or email). This information is provided to us by Clerk, our authentication provider.
2.2 Notion workspace data
When you connect your Notion account, we store your OAuth access token, workspace ID, and workspace name. When you open a page for printing, we fetch that page’s content (blocks, titles, icons, cover images) from Notion’s API using your token. This content is rendered in your browser for preview and printing.
Currently, we do not persistently store your Notion page content on our servers — it is fetched on demand and exists only for the duration of your session. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and notify you.
2.3 Usage data
We record print events to enforce free-tier limits and provide usage statistics. Each print event includes the Notion page ID, page count, and calendar date. We also track which one-time rewards (“gestures”) you’ve received, such as your first print bonus.
2.4 Subscription and billing data
If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Polar.sh, our Merchant of Record. We never receive or store your credit card number, bank account, or other payment instrument details. We store only your Polar customer ID, subscription ID, plan status, and billing period dates.
2.5 Feedback
When you submit feedback through the in-app widget, we collect the category you select, your message, and optionally your email address. We also automatically capture technical context: the Notion page ID you were viewing (if any), your browser type, screen size, plan tier, and current usage statistics. This helps us reproduce and fix issues.
2.6 Analytics
We use PostHog (cloud-hosted) for product analytics. PostHog collects information such as pages visited within our app, features used, button clicks, browser type, operating system, screen resolution, approximate location derived from IP address, and referring website. We use this data to understand how the Service is used and to improve it. We do not use PostHog session replay.
2.7 Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies strictly for authentication session management (via Clerk) and analytics (via PostHog). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. PostHog may use localStorage or cookies to maintain an anonymous session identifier.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the Service — fetch your Notion pages, render print previews, and process print requests
- Enforce usage limits — track prints per month and pages per document for free-tier users
- Process subscriptions — create and manage your paid plan through Polar.sh
- Send product emails — welcome emails, monthly usage summaries, and transactional emails (account confirmations, billing receipts, subscription changes)
- Improve the Service — analyze aggregate usage patterns via PostHog, read and respond to feedback
- Deliver gesture rewards — detect when you’ve earned a one-time bonus (e.g., first print, returning after absence)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build behavioral profiles for third parties.
4. Third-party services
We share your information with the following third-party services, solely to operate the Service:
Clerk (authentication)
Receives your name and email address. Manages sign-in sessions. See Clerk’s Privacy Policy.
Notion (content access)
We use your OAuth token to read your Notion workspace on your behalf. We do not share your data with Notion beyond what their API requires. See Notion’s Privacy Policy.
Polar.sh (billing)
Acts as our Merchant of Record — processes payments, handles sales tax and compliance, and manages subscription billing. Polar receives your email and payment details. See Polar’s Privacy Policy.
PostHog (analytics)
Receives anonymized usage events, browser information, and IP address (used for approximate geolocation, then discarded). See PostHog’s Privacy Policy.
Railway (hosting)
Hosts our application and database. Data is stored on Railway’s infrastructure in the United States. See Railway’s Privacy Policy.
We do not share your personal information with any other third parties, except as required by law.
5. Data storage and security
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway in the United States, encrypted at rest. All connections to Better Print are encrypted in transit via HTTPS/TLS. Notion OAuth tokens are stored in our database and used only to make API requests on your behalf.
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. International data transfers
Better Print is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
7. Data retention
- Account data — retained while your account is active.
- Notion OAuth tokens — deleted immediately when you disconnect your Notion workspace.
- Print events — retained for usage tracking and aggregate analytics.
- Feedback — retained indefinitely to improve the Service, unless you request deletion.
- Analytics data— retained according to PostHog’s data retention policies.
When you delete your account, all associated data (account information, Notion connection, subscription, print events, gestures, and feedback) is permanently deleted from our database. This deletion is triggered automatically and cannot be undone.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
All users
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate information (account name/email can be updated through your sign-in provider).

- Disconnect Notion — revoke our access to your Notion workspace at any time from the Settings page.
Tennessee residents (TIPA)
Under the Tennessee Information Protection Act, you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to opt out of the sale of personal information or targeted advertising. We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the Service.

Our legal bases for processing your personal data are:
- Contract performance — processing necessary to provide the Service you signed up for (account management, Notion access, print tracking, billing).
- Legitimate interest — analytics and product improvement, fraud prevention, and service security.
- Consent — product emails (usage summaries). You may withdraw consent at any time.
You also have the right to data portability and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@illuminate.llc. We will respond within 30 days (or sooner if required by applicable law).

We may send you the following types of email:
- Transactional — account confirmation, billing receipts, subscription changes, and security notices. These cannot be opted out of while your account is active.
- Welcome — a one-time email when you create your account.
- Usage summaries — a monthly summary of your printing activity. You may opt out of these by contacting us at legal@illuminate.llc or, when available, via the unsubscribe link in the email.
10. Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is no industry-standard way to respond to DNT signals, and we do not currently alter our data collection practices in response to them. If you wish to limit analytics data collection, you may request account deletion or contact us at legal@illuminate.llc.
11. Data breach notification
In the event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify affected users via email and, where required by law, notify the relevant authorities. Under Tennessee law (TIPA), we will provide notification within 60 days of discovering the breach.
12. Children’s privacy
Better Print is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@illuminate.llc.
13. Third-party links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, including Notion, Polar.sh, and your sign-in provider. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Effective date” at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
